Golf Tour - George and Knysna

Golf Tour - George and Knysna

Day 1
Upon arrival at George Airport you are met and transferred to Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate. This world famous resort boasts four championship 18 hole layouts and you will stay her for the next 4 nights.

FANCOURT MANOR HOUSE
At the Manor House, you will find a restful haven in a building with a history dating back to the beginning of the 19th century.  In 1847 Henry Fancourt White established a workers' base at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains for the construction of the Montagu Pass.  Now a National Monument, the Manor House with its 34 bedrooms is situated in a wooded parkland and is the perfect base for your leisure.

Accommodation in a standard room for 4 nights on a bed and breakfast basis and includes unlimited golf on the Outeniqua, Montague and Bramble Hill courses.

Days 2 -4
At leisure at Fancourt to play on the three courses and enjoy the wonderful facilities on offer at

Fancourt.

The Outeniqua is one of two majestic 18-hole Parkland layouts at Fancourt. Designed by legendary Grand Slam golfer Gary Player, it is similar in character to its sibling The Montagu, and its challenging design and fine conditioning will ensure an excellent test for all levels of golfers. As with all courses at Fancourt, there are a variety of tees from which to choose to play, ensuring that golfers are unlikely to ever feel overpowered by the course.

As with The Montagu, play is restricted to hotel residents, members and their guests, so you are unlikely to ever feel crowded on the course, however, it is always a good idea to book in advance to ensure that you get your desired tee time.

The warm-up area, featuring a full-length range and a chipping and bunker practice area, is available to all golfers before play.

Golf carts are available for hire, weather permitting, while knowledgeable caddies are available too. Please note that to improve your playing enjoyment and to ensure a steady pace-of-play, it is expected that there are at least two caddies for each fourball.

The Montagu is a much celebrated parkland course and has been ranked as the number-one golf course in South Africa in the past. It has recently undergone major renovations with several holes being redesigned and has two completely new holes – the 1st and the 9th.

"With golf critics becoming more discerning and the increase in new modern courses, we believed it was time to rejuvenate the Montagu layout and improve the course immeasurably," says Resort General Manager, Ingrid Diesel. " We believe the new-look course, which has now grown in superbly, has been restored to its former glory where it will once again hold its head high amongst the best in the world."

As with The Outeniqua, play is restricted to members, their guests and resort guests, so there is ample time and space to savour the Fancourt golfing experience. It is, however, always a good idea to book in advance to ensure that you get your desired tee time.

Bramble Hill is the fourth course at Fancourt, but it has a character all of its own. It offers a golf experience that is relaxed and friendly, without any “private country club” intimidation! The course itself is challenging enough to test the most proficient golfer, yet it is sure to be an enjoyable round even for begin. Day 5

After breakfast and check out of the hotel, your rental vehicle will be delivered to you. Proceed eastwards along the N2 to Knysna.

KNYSNA LOG INN

Built in 1998, the Knysna Log-Inn Hotel embodies an "indigenous" concept that combines the character and the spirit of the surrounding indigenous forests with Knysna's romantic history. On entering the lobby of one of the largest log structures in the Southern Hemisphere, exquisitely carved solid Yellow wood trunks tower upwards to the magnificent Scandinavian hammer trusses. Rays of sunshine flooding through the spectacular stained glass windows, illuminate the splendid solid Yellowwood staircase. The autumn hues of the slate flooring and the extensive use of natural river stone combine with the wood to create an atmosphere of tranquil balance. Truly "in tune with nature"

Accommodation is in a standard room for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

The Knysna Log-Inn Hotel is very centrally located in the middle of town and ideally situated for sight seeing and is within easy walking distance to the Knysna Quays (better knows as the Knysna Waterfront) - just 200m away, as are the ferries to the Heads.

Day 6
After breakfast driver up to the summit of the eastern “head” and play a round of golf at Pezula Championship Golf Course.

Pezula Championship Course and Golf Club

This is a sweeping spectacle of fairways and greens rolling through the pristine Southern Cape landscape. The breathtaking, award-winning 18-hole course which was designed by David Dale and Ronald Fream of GolfPlan USA, rates amongst the best and most scenic golf courses in the world.

In 2001, just a few months after it opened, the Course was awarded Best New Golf Course in South Africa. In February 2005 Compleat Golfer rated it a Five Star Golf Experience. It was also awarded:

Best South African Golf Development - Homes Overseas Awards London 2006

Most Outstanding Golf Resort Worldwide - 2006 VIP International Traveller Reader’s Travel Award

Best South African Golf Development - Bentley International Property Awards London 2005

Day 7
Today you will play the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the Garden Route, Simola reflects the great maestro's philosophy of attuning the layout and design to the natural lie of the land.

Simola Golf and Country Estate

When I first started, I only knew how to do one thing, and that was to put a golf course on a piece of ground that only a good player could play ...

"Easy courses are fun occasionally, but I don't think they stand the 'test of time' to be considered great courses… However, when I start to design a golf course, I don't intentionally try to make it as tough as I can. I simply aim to create a golf course that will be a demanding test of skill for the accomplished golfer playing from the back tees. But, at the same time, I want to offer a challenging, yet enjoyable experience for the average or beginner player who plays from the appropriate tees and thinks his or her way around the golf course."

- Jack Nicklaus (as quoted in Unique Homes Magazine)

This afternoon at leisure.
