The Hartbeespoort Dam is a favoured recreational area for the many people who seek to escape into a country atmosphere from Johannesburg and Pretoria. The dam offers a variety of watersports and places of interest. The Magalies Meander provides a route with arts and crafts on show and good country restaurants. The Heritage Route starts at the dam, traveling north to the Pilanesberg and on to Madikwe.
Lesedi - a Sotho word which means "light". It was made famous by the great leader and founder of the Southern Sotho nation, Moshoeshoe.
Lesedi is a multi cultural village set amongst the pristine bushveld and rocky hills less than an hour’s drive north of Johannesburg. Situated at Lesedi are four traditional homesteads – the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi and Basotho tribes.
The Magaliesberg area boasts some of the best ballooning weather in the world, just 45 km north of Johannesburg. The thrill is indescribable.

Adjacent to the Pilanesberg is Sun City - one of the prime tourist attractions in South Africa. The complex, which is set on the slopes of a picturesque valley in the Pilanesberg mountains captures the essence of an ancient African Kingdom in an opulent and astonishing architecture. A casino, the Valley of the Waves and two championship golf courses are just some of the many attractions.
The Lost City is a fantasy world with its origins in the traditions, legends and myths from Africa's distant past ... a spectacular palace rising from the lakes and rain forests of ancient Africa.
Mafikeng was the focus of world attention when besieged for seven months during the Anglo-Boer War. Many of the places of interest are related to the siege and history surrounding the area.
North of Mafikeng lies the Madikwe Game Reserve, another attraction of this province. It offers the ‘Big Five’ and is also well known for its birding, with high populations of raptors. Accommodation is provided within the reserve at several safari lodges.

Tracing the route followed by the pioneers of the mining industry, one travels through the towns of Potchefstroom, with its beautiful botanical gardens and 14 museums, Klerksdorp, founded in 1837 with the discovery of gold and Bloemhof before ending in Christiana. Stilfontein is the location of the Golden Village Community Project, a mining rehabilitation project involving the local people. Curios are made from recycled waste products and young people are taught environmental management.
